Little Munchkins

Drawing

Little Munchkins

Pretend you have shrunk to the size of an ant and imagine the world from that perspective!

Ages 5+ ~15 min

For this activity you’ll need a string (about 24 inches long), colored pencils, paper, a firm book or clipboard to draw on and a magnifying glass (optional).

Go out into your yard (or someplace inside your home) and find a place that you think would be interesting if you were an ant. Place the string along a “path” the ant will travel.  Next, have the kids use a magnifying glass to observe the ant’s path and then draw what they see. Maybe a drop of water becomes a lake, a few grass clippings become a giant meadow or a stick becomes a giant redwood tree. Keep drawing until the entire path is complete. Then share the pictures with each other.  Older kids can write a story that goes with their drawing or find a new place to explore!
